Plot Synopsis[]
When a burnt-out Wheeler finds himself in a life-or-death situation, he openly wishes he never became a Planeteer. Dr. Blight manipulates him into changing history to relieve himself of his duties, but Wheeler soon learns he's also changed the past, present, and future for the worse.
Episode Summary[]
On New Year's Eve in Greenland, Greedly and Dr. Blight plot to use a time machine to go back in time fifty years to wreck the future, by exploiting the lack of conservation laws circa that period to their advantage. Meanwhile, Wheeler is getting fed up with Planeteer duties taking up too much of his time and sees it as nothing more than a full-time position. When the Planeteers stop Greedly and Blight's plan, Wheeler and Blight wind up getting trapped together in ice with the time portal which causes radioactivity that makes Captain Planet weak. As the two start to become sleepy from a lack of oxygen, Wheeler regret becoming a Planeteer & whining that at this moment he would've been having fun if he hadn't become a Planeteer. Dr. Blight uses it to trick him into going into the past, specifically to the point where he took the Ring of Fire. Wheeler is initially reluctant to go through with it & he ultamitely stops his past self from accepting the ring to prevent him from becoming a Planeteer.
Gaia suddenly appears & asks Wheeler what he has done. Wheeler tells Gaia that he stopped himself from becoming a Planeteer so that he won't have to die in the cave-in but Gaia tells Wheeler that by changing his past, he also has changed the history of the world, where Captain Planet does not exist, as the Planeteers were incomplete and they subsequently disbanded. Also, as he didn't foil Greedly and Blight's plan, so Greedly and Rigger were able to go back in time to speed up Global Warming. Although Wheeler notices the immediate effect it has on the present, as the area is considerably warmer that it was a minute ago, he asks why somebody else wasn't chosen as a Planeteer instead of him, to which Gaia replied that Wheeler was supposed to set an example for countless others. At first, Wheeler doesn't believe Gaia. Gaia forces MAL to show Wheeler the kind of future he created, showing him the world, thirty-five years later.
